A dip into the archives. A trip down memory lane. The four crows painting.
I like crows. I would go so far as to call myself a defender of crows.
Many see them as a nuisance; some don’t see them at all. We take it for granted that they will always be there as they have been in the past.
Sometimes I play a game. I imagine that we live in a world where crows are extinct and then when I do inevitably see one I allow the feeling of surprise and elation to well up inside of me, as if I’m the first human to set eyes on one in generations.
Luckily, I’m easily amused.
This painting was born out of some photographs that I had taken of various crows in the yard at home. I combined them into a montage for this painting to highlight the communal aspect of their lives.
And their cleverness.
The simple lesson of today is never take a crow for granted. You don’t know when you’ll be very happy to see one.
Their solid blackness against the mottled background of wall and yard bespeaks of their ability to survive, even when ignored. Many would say they are in fact at their collective best when ignored.
Food for thought.
