Permanent Joys

I watched a couple of videos recently of some abstract artists at work, via the wonderful invention that is the YouTube.

One in particular caught my attention. Mainly because his process was remarkably similar to my own.

He put paint on, an arbitrary pattern was achieved and then he took it off again only to reapply moments later with no rhyme or reason.

What gives?

Was he lacking direction? Am I lacking direction when I do the same thing?

The only defense I can proffer is that you’re searching for something and you don’t know what it is, but you will recognize it when you see it.

It’s something you’ve known all along and it’s just a case of rediscovering. The hope is that the paint will go on slightly different next time and you’ll capture that fleeting feeling mid air. Frozen for ever.

Or you might not, in which case you will keep applying, scrapping off and reapplying paint ad infinitum.

Ah, the life and woes of an artist.

But its all worth it in the end and you can share the joys by browsing here and moreover purchasing. Then the joys are permanent, and you can’t say that about many things.

Happy Thursday.
