Run Robbie, Run!

jollyman

World cup 2002, Ireland V Germany, Ireland one nil down with five minutes to go.

We watched that game in work; they set up a screen so we could all watch our combined hopes go down in flames.

Germany was just too strong, but Ireland’s only hope, forward striker Robbie Keane would not stop making runs.

He ran when the ball was near him, when it was far away, when the referee was talking to the linesman, when Germany scored, he just didn’t stop making (useless) forward runs when there was simply no point.

Then a German defender lazily gives a back pass, and some how, some way both he and the goal keeper become confused, the ball falls to Keane (who has being running all this time) and suddenly GOAL!!

We all jump around the place because we are into the next stages of the World cup, out of the group of Death.

Keane runs around the pitch in celebration and he could still be running for all I know.

I also know you need, in the art business, to keep making those useless runs, because sooner or later the open goal will appear and you better have the ball.

And the only way you will get the ball is by making the useless runs.

Why is he talking about football?

I’m not, the paintings are here, and their good and their reasonably priced and their available, and I’m still running!

Thanks Robbie! Happy Friday.
