“It was the night before Christmas and all was silent. …”
Probably these words are amongst the most memorable when it comes to this time of year.
Unfortunately, these days, things are anything but silent, especially the night before Christmas.
We fill those hours incessantly with canned noise. We even choose to spend good money on that noise, when the most precious thing, silence, is actually free.
Silence renews. It gives us time to get to know ourselves anew. To even befriend ourselves again.
Maybe that is why people hate this time of year so much, because it claims to be the most peaceful time of year when in fact its not. For some its constant pressure. They even believe if they are not under pressure then they are missing out on something.
We fall under the lie of constant advertising. Already we have the sales now before Christmas, and even the first summer holiday ads have been aired, just to remind us that there is no let up.
What solves this entire problem?
Simple awareness. Just be aware, and then be still and fall into silence. In that silence you will stillness. In that stillness comes healing.
Art and creativity live in there somewhere as well. They don’t all reside by our given labels. Many times they are one and the same thing.
Me, I hope to do some painting over the holidays.
The paintings of yesteryear are good, the ones coming will even be better and for that there is much gratitude.
Have a lovely peaceful Christmas.
